Mrs Mary Montagu-Scott has announced the 16 recipients receiving commendations for their great work in the community. The High Sheriff Awards are a mark of distinction and recognition given to individual volunteers, groups and public servants based in Hampshire who are making a significant contribution to society, focusing on law and order related projects, particularly those that enhance safety and cohesion in our communities. Tour and lunch on board HMS Duncan

The High Sheriff and her husband were honoured to visit the Royal Navy Base in Portsmouth for a tour with Commodore Jeremy Rigby followed by a tour and lunch on board HMS Duncan a type 45 destroyer with Commanding Officer Eleanor Stack. We were very impressed by the professionalism and passion they all have for their important work.   We learnt a huge amount about the role of the Navy and its impact on our county and Portsmouth. How lucky we are to have them here.

Winchester Law Sunday service

Winchester Law Sunday service This annual service of celebration of all those who work in Law and Order in our county was held at 11am in Winchester Cathedral. A huge gathering of High Sheriffs from around the south including, the Isle of Wight, Dorset, Wiltshire, Surrey, West Sussex, Gloucester, Somerset, Berkshire and Bristol attended and are seen here with the High Court Judge Hon. Admiral Lord Nelson School Portsmouth “Prison Me No Way”

Admiral Lord Nelson School Portsmouth “Prison Me No Way” I visited a charity  ‘ Prison Me No Way’ who go into schools to talk to the students about life in prison, crime prevention, safety and raise awareness of how to keep out of trouble and the consequences of prison. Police Sport UK 2017 Running Championships

I was invited to start the Police Sport UK 2017 running championships at Salterns Park, Lee-On-Solent. 300 Police men and women from all over the UK took part to run a 10 mile run along the seafront on an incredibly windy day. Fastest runner was from the City of London Police at just under 1 hour.Awards were given in many categories in an evening event in Portsmouth attended by the Chief Constable.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue trainee graduation day 4th August 2017

For the first time in 8 years the Hampshire Fire and Rescue service had completed a new training programme for recruits and this day was the formal graduation. Families, staff and invited guests were shown a range of displays of the work of the new Fire and Rescue cohort including putting out fires, cutting a person from a car crash scene, rescue from heights, using the high pressure lance to enter a fire zone and reducing the temperature before entry and parading.  I gave out the awards and spoke to all the students who had done a 22 week programme […]

Visit to the Hamble Marine Police Unit based 2nd August 2017

The High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight, Ben Rouse and I went out with the Marine Police on their boat Commander to patrol the waters off Cowes and Southampton Water. It was a very rainy day with high winds so visibility was poor but we learnt a lot about their work and the challenges they have in their specialist field. The port of Southampton is a very busy waterway with very complex management and multi-agencies overseeing it. A very interesting day out.

Visit to the Specialist Operations Regiment near Fareham

18th July Visit to the Specialist Operations Regiment near Fareham at HMS Dryad, home of the Defence College of Policing and Guarding. An amazing day seeing the work of this regiment of the Royal Military Police with its Forensics team, Cyber-Crime and Close Protection unit. I also got to see the famous D-Day map room in Southwick Park House. I was presented with a beautiful photograph of the visit of the Regiment to Beaulieu by Col. Belinda Forsythe.

Visit to the opening of the New Hampshire Police and Fire Heritage Trust at the Solent Sky Museum in Southampton. An excellent addition to this local museum with brilliant displays all done by dedicated volunteers to show the historic collections of Police and Fire service artefacts, pictures and displays. http://www.solentskymuseum.org

999 Show at Beaulieu

May 31st 999 Show at Beaulieu in support of the emergency services A day of celebration and support was held at the National Motor Museum Beaulieu to welcome Hampshire Fire and Rescue, Police, South Central Ambulance and many voluntary organisations to show off what they do and raise money and awareness of their work. A murder mystery was held in Palace House with members of the Royal Military Police Forensics team assisting visitors with their detective work and showing off their fingerprinting and camera technology. Disaster training Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service with University of Portsmouth 10th May

A huge national and international 3 day exercise involving 30 organisations, over 2000 people to simulate a disaster and test and train all participants. Hampshire is a leading rescue service in International Search and Rescue and has a team on 6 hour readiness to go anywhere in the world to assist in such things as earthquakes, tsunamis or disasters. I was fortunate to be asked to attend as an observer and be able to see first hand this very important trading exercise in Fort Widley and Fort Purbrook where scenarios were set and procedures tested with rescue teams including use […]

I read and signed my ‘Declaration’ to High Court Judge Hon. Mr Justice Warby in the Winchester Law Courts to an assembly of court officers, judges and guests.
