Law Sunday Choral Mattins – Winchester Cathedral Sunday. 14 October 2018

The annual service of celebration of all those who work tirelessly in Law and Order in our county was held at Winchester Cathedral at 11am on Sunday 14th October.  Not even the terrible rain and windy conditions could deter the impressive numbers including High Sheriffs from around the South and surrounding areas including the Isle of Wight, Dorset, Wiltshire, Surrey, West Sussex, Gloucester and Berkshire from attending.

The sermon was read by The Hon. Mrs Justice Heather Hallett who talked about the importance of forgiveness and the Service was led by the Dean of Winchester, the Very Rev’d Catherine Ogle.

Those who braved the wet conditions included many members of the Judiciary including, Civic Leaders, Barristers, Silks, Court Staff both present and past, together with the Police and Emergency Service and representatives from our armed forces.

The Volunteer Police Cadets provided an invaluable service escorting the High Court Judges and High Sheriffs in the rain, as well as forming several guards of honour inside the beautiful Cathedral.

A drinks reception directly after the service was held in the East End of the Cathedral was well attended by many of those in the congregation and gave chance for people to catch up with old friends and acquaintances.
